17.05 pm A fantastic 'A' final saw the drivers going in to the LAST segment with 4 drivers all on the same lap !! It was anybody's race but an absolutely tremendous drive from BEN WOODWARD on orange saw him crowned new EUROSPORT Champion for 2008 - well done Ben !!!! James Cleave finished up 2nd about 1/2 a lap down and Ross Grogan 3rd another lap further back. However, Alan Luca's time from the 'B' final was enough to give him 3rd place overall. |

13.15pm Hello from a damp and miserable Newbury - outside anyway. Qualifying for Eurosports has just finished. The format this year is a 1 minute shoot out. Each driver has a minute to post his fastest 1 lap time. Top Qualifier with a tremendous 4.480 secs is Mark Harwood. 2nd spot went to James Cleave (4.525) 3rd Vince Lee (4.552) 4th Ross Grogan (4.599) 5th Greg Harwood (4.719) 6th Graham Woodward (4.743) 7th Ben Woodward (4.746) and 8th Michael Ovens (4.748). Some notable names missing out on an 'A' final place - Paul Shepherd could only manage 9th, Charlie Gooding 17th and Brian Saunders 18th. The first final is just under way - more news later. |

Sunday 4th May |
16.55pm Overall Final : Another good but not so close race. James Cleave charged off into a lead he was never to lose, with Charlie Gooding struggling to hang on to him. James completed a comfortable win on 100 laps with Charlie just over a lap behind on 98.??. A bit of mayhem towards the saw Paul Shepherd move into 3rd spot on 97 laps and Greg Harwood 4th on 94. As soon as I can get the spreadsheets I'll upload them. That's all for today - Eurosport tomorrow. |

Sunday 4th May |
16.35pm Main Grade Final : A fantastic final with 4 drivers on the same lap nearly all the way, Martin Ellis (Fylde), Bob Hallums (North London), Ian Barker (Roedale) and Michael Ovens (North London). The lead kept changing all the way but Martin held his nerve to win with 100 laps from Michael 2nd on 99.84 and Ian Barker 3rd on 99.22. Bob Hallums held on to 4th place with 98 laps. Overall Final about to start. |
|
Sunday 4th May |
16.15pm Intermediate Final : A tremendous race mostly between Christopher Aldridge (Leicester) and Stephen Siddall (Fylde). Christopher steamed off into a good lead but Stephen gradually pegged him back and caught and passed him by about lap 60. Christopher tried in vain to regain the lead but Stephen skillfully held on to win by just over a lap. Stephen Siddal is, therefore th first champion of the day on 100 laps, from Christopher Aldridge second finishing on 98.90 laps and Malcolm Avison (Roedale) taking 3rd spot on 94 laps. |

Sunday 4th May |
14.00 pm Apologies for the delay in bringing you news of Finals, I'm able to start bringing you updates thanks to Andy Brown Searle's mobile link on his laptop. Of the races run yesterday, the Novice Production race was won by Martin Jackson (Dudley) with 145.28 laps from 2nd Simon Francis (Bournemouth) on 136.93 and third Christopher Aldridge (Leicester) with 136.58. The Main Grade (100 lap final) was a very close run battle with Alan Lucas (Ecurie Barnton) and Michael Ovens (North London) battlng it out all the way. Alan held the lead for a long time wih Michael snapping at his heels, but Alan's gears were obviously failing and Michael caught and passed him with about 10 laps to go. Alan held on by the skin of his teeth (literally, he only had 2 of the original 38 teeth left on his gear left at the end !!) to take 2nd spot from a fast finishing Ben Woodward (Leicester). The overall final was again a very close run affair with Brian Saunders leading most of the way from Greg Harwood. For lap after lap Greg whittled down Brian's lead and eventually passed him with about 10 laps to go. But Brian wouldn't give up and very nearly got it back, but time ran out. Greg Finished his 100 laps just .32 of a lap ahead of Brian and Woody finished in a strong 3rd place, realising he wsn't going to challenge for 2nd. Greg finished on 100 laps, Brian 99.68 and Woody 95. |
