• LEICESTER SLOT CAR CLUB has a new NATIONAL CHAMPION.
BEN WOODWARD drove a fantastic race in the Eurosport ‘A’ final and held his nerve going into the last segment with 3 other drivers on the same lap. He had the advantage of having the favoured orange lane last and powered his way past last year’s champion, James Cleave, to complete a great day for the Woodwards. Graham also made the final and was one of the 4 drivers on the same lap, but having to drive the unpopular red lane last dropped him down to 7th overall.
Many congratulations to Ben, and also to Christopher Aldridge, who managed a brave 2nd place in the Novice Production final - next year ?
  • Area 5 Championship concludes with an overall win for Chris Thomas. See Results page for full details.
  • Results from Leicester Area round can be found in the ‘results’ page.
  • Week 2 of the Winter Championship was the first Saloon race, and thus ‘proper’ segment times were recorded and the first lane records set. Geoff unfortunately qualified 9th and missed out on a final, The B final was a close race all the way, with Kev, Trev and Bob never more than 20 feet apart for the first couple of minutes. Trev then dropped it a few times in the last minute and Kev ran out winner from a fast finishing Bob by .30 of a lap. Trev held on to 3rd and Christopher 4th.
The A final was even closer than the B, with Stu, Chris, Alex and Woody all virtually together for the first minute. Alex dropped back, but Woody, Chris and Stu were having a great battle with Woody just keeping his nose ahead. Chris got past Stu in the closing stages, but an unfortunate off saw him drop back to 3rd. Stu was only inches behind Woody as time ran out, but, Stu’s car coasted a bit further than Woody’s and they both finished on the same total - 35.10 laps. Chris was exactly 1 lap back on 34.10 and Alex on 33.25. A fantastic race and testament to the new track - it’s producing some very close and exciting racing which is being enjoyed by all.
See the ‘results’ page for full details.
  • The first official race night on the new track kicked off with round 1 of this year’s Winter Championship.
Chris set the fastest qualifying time with a 4.947 sec lap, and thus holds the first lap record. Both Stu and Woody had miserable qualifying times and both ended up in the B final. They recovered, though, to finish up 1st and 2nd respectively, separated by only 1/10 of a lap. Stu’s total of 133.20 for the 4 segments is therefore the top 4 lane total. In the A final, Christopher, Bob, Chris and Trev had a very close race all the way through with only 2 1/2 laps covering the whole field at the end. Trev’s 129.55 was good enough for 3rd overall and Bob ended up 4th with 129.30.
Racing on the new track seems to be alot closer than on the old one, and everybody seems to be in with a chance of winning and the general feeling is that competition is much fiercer, while still being great fun.
  • The new Championship season will start on Thursday 3rd January 2008 on the new track. The format will stay the same as before, starting with Sports, then Saloon, F1 and Group 12. Everyone welcome.
  • **NEW** - check out your personal weekly performances on the Results page
  • Sunday 9th December - The World Champions just keep on coming !! Bob, Woody, Ben, Paul and myself (Kev !) travelled to Coventry Transport Museum to watch the World 1/12th Stock Car RC Championships. Stu Tennant and Alex Wood were challenging for the titles, with great success ! Both Stu and Alex made the 8 man final out of a World entry of 76 drivers. Stu prevailed and became the WORLD CHAMPION and Alex finished in 6th place, and, we think, should be crowned WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPION (but we’re not sure).
Many congratulations guys, I’ve posted some photos on a special page - click on the link, above/right
  • Sunday 2nd December - Area round at Dudley, wins for Martin in Saloon and Chris Thomas in Formula 1 and Sports/GT. Chris wins overall from Martin with Woody 3rd. See Results page for details.

Annual ‘get together’ at the New Inn on Wednesday 5th December at 8.30 pm. Contact Bob Budge if you haven’t already done so.

29th November - Another ‘shake down’ testing night with a turn out of 12 drivers (welcome back Judge). Drivers are now getting used to the track and times are coming down. Three drivers got under 5 secs in the 1 minute qualifying, Chris TQ’ed with 4.847, Stu 4.867 and Corky 4.967. In the segmented finals Mike won the ‘C’ final from Alex, Aaron and Geoff. Woody was flying in the ‘B’ and won it comfortably from Bob, Kev and Christopher. The ‘A’ was won by Stu from Corky, Chris and Trev but Woody’s total was good enough to hold on for the win, nearly 2 laps ahead of Stu. See Results for details.

  • Thursday 29th November - all members invited for final shakedown race night prior to re-locating the track and fitting permanent barriers.
  • AREA ROUNDS 2008 - This season’s Area Rounds commence this Sunday, 2nd December at Dudley. See Results for dates of all the rounds and a review of last season’s Championship.

22nd November - At long last 11 drivers gathered for the inaugural race night on the new track, primarily for a ‘shake down’ to find and sort any problems. The track ran extremely well and we only found a couple of problems - the power supply tripped out on occasions and we need to move the whole track about 6-8 inches to the right to give the drivers a little more room on the rostrum. The track has to be partially taken apart anyway to fit the permanent barriers, so we can move it while doing this.
The racing was fast, furious and most enjoyable and Stu proved what a good driver he is by posting the fastest qualifying lap (4.947 secs) and winning overall with a 4 lane total of 129.60 laps. The overall impression was that the new track will be a great success and a good challenge to post consistent lap times. We are not officially ‘open’ yet, when the time comes an invitation will be extended to all to come and try it.
